D-EVO Supports Esgrima Lusitana
D-EVO proudly announces that it has accepted the challenge of being the Official Sponsor of the Esgrima Lusitana Group – Game of the Portuguese Pau de Cascais, whose objective is the dissemination and teaching of Bears and Staff of Combat and Personal Defense in region of Cascais.
The “Game of the Portuguese Wood” better known as “Esgrima Lusitana” is a genuinely Portuguese martial art of fighting with sticks. It is also a national cultural heritage, whose origin goes back to the handling of medieval weapons, as our King D. Duarte I shows us in his book “Teaching of Good Riding Through the Saddle”. In this document it is possible to verify the technical and tactical equality of the handling of the sword and the stick, that passed from generation to generation until our days.
Preserved in the popular tradition, in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, they were still frequent throughout the country, but with emphasis on the region minhota, the fighting of wood in the fairs and pilgrimages that sometimes involved whole villages. In Lisbon at the beginning of the twentieth century a style of sports characteristics began to be practiced in clubs such as the Real Gym Club, later the Portuguese Gym Club, the Lisboa Gym Club and the Ateneu Comercial de Lisboa.
Currently, this Portuguese fencing, in addition to its martial and personal defense characteristics (in its most practical form – the baton), is also in the form of a competitive sport, in which synthetic material is used in order to preserve the integrity physics of practitioners, making it very attractive especially for the young, and has therefore been included in the national Physical Education programs of the schools.
The National Portuguese Pau Game Federation, created in 1998, has the mission of developing the study, practice, promotion and dignification of the Pau Game (Portuguese Lusitanian Fencing) as a traditional Portuguese art, as well as preserving a national cultural heritage. value is internationally recognized.
This modality that is part of our history, our culture, and our identity as Portuguese, has been transformed and adapted to the interests of each school and practitioners, being at this moment comprehensive enough to be considered as a modern sport.

Training in Cascais
